Cape Ann Holiday Life – This IS the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!
Cape Ann is never more beautiful and festive than during the holidays. The shops are bustling, lights and decorations adorn the streets, and special holiday events draw out visitors and locals alike to celebrate this special season.
You’re likely to see the first snow blanketing the beaches, riverfronts and marshes – creating a perfect winter backdrop for the holiday season.
This is the season for giving, and those who visit throughout the year know that our shops and art galleries offer unique gift ideas. There are special downtown shopping nights throughout the season. And our restaurants and inns get into the spirit as well, with their own holiday offers – including gift cards and holiday getaway packages that’ll allow that someone special to enjoy Cape Ann cuisine and hospitality at this special time of year.
There are other events and activities that spotlight the holiday harmony that transforms Cape Ann. Check out the events page on the Cape Ann Chamber and RockportUSA websites for a full calendar, but here’s a snapshot of some of the holiday festivities this season:
- The annual Gloucester Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting on November 25 marks the official start of the holiday season on Cape Ann.
- This is followed by other holiday lightings throughout the region, including the Memory Tree in Essex on November 29, Rockport’s Christmas tree lighting following Santa’s arrival by a lobster boat on December 1, Manchester’s Friendship Tree on December 2, the Lobster Trap Menorah in Gloucester on December x, and the celebration of Gloucester’s famed Lobster Trap Christmas Tree on December 8.
- Other holiday festivities include the Manchester Holiday Stroll and Rockport’s Holiday Shopping Night on November 30, the Gloucester Middle Street Walk on December 8, the Rockport’s Art Gallery Stroll on December 8-9, Makers’ Festival on December 15-16, and 73rd annual Live Nativity Pageant on December 22.
- The holiday season’s festivities come to a close with Rockport’s New Year’s Eve on December 31.
One of our favorite holiday songs tells the story of Cape Ann during this season — it is the most wonderful time of the year.
