The Perfect Storm
The Perfect Storm, written by Sebastian Junger, now a feature Warner Brothers movie, documents the October 1991 storm of the century, the fate of swordfishing vessel The Andrea Gail out of Gloucester, MA and her crew of six who were lost at sea.

For generations the economy of Gloucester relied on men and women in the commercial fishing industry. It is a hazardous vocation. Even today, more people die on fishing boats per capita than at any other job. Like generations before them, they risk going to sea to support their families.

In October of 1991, a storm stronger than any in recorded history hit the coast off of Gloucester, Massachusetts. It was dubbed "Perfect Storm" because it was three storms combined into one, creating one of the most destructive forces ever in the Atlantic Ocean. Boats encountered waves of 100 feet, the equivalent of a ten-story building.
